Sarah Whitmore is a litigation partner at Torys where she has developed a formidable track record of strong advocacy in complex, high-stakes corporate and commercial litigation matters with an emphasis on class action defence. She represents the defendants in a number of precedent-setting class actions, many of which have led to significant developments in the law and successes for her clients.
Sarah also maintains a leading pro bono practice. She’s acted on behalf of a Canadian Olympic athlete, civil liberties associations, other equity-seeking organizations, and refugees, including in cases heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, appellate courts in British Columbia and Ontario, and the Supreme Court of Canada. As a pioneer for using anti-SLAPP legislation, Sarah helps victims of gender-based violence who face defamation lawsuits after reporting or speaking out about their abuse.
