Nate has successfully acted as lead counsel in trials, arbitrations, and appeals at all levels of court in Ontario and in other provinces. He is repeatedly recognized by industry awards for excellence in corporate and commercial litigation and is described by his peers as “an exceptional advocate.”
As Chair of AGB’s Technology Committee, Nate leads initiatives to integrate AI and data-driven tools into litigation strategy and client service. He teaches advocacy at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and contributes to pro bono cases.

Nate Read-Ellis is a Toronto-based commercial litigation lawyer and trial advocate known for his strategic insight, professionalism, and courtroom excellence. Mark van Zandvoort is partner and Co-Practice Group Leader of the Litigation Group at Aird & Berlis LLP. Mark has extensive experience in a broad range of corporate, commercial, and financial services litigation, often involving contract, fraud, and other torts, negligence, and allegations of oppression. He is a dedicated advisor and fierce advocate who ensures that conflicts are dealt with effectively and economically for his clients.
Mark’s clients span a diverse range of sectors and include public, private, and not-for-profit corporations, partnerships, financial institutions, court-appointed receivers, as representative counsel to groups of investors, charitable organizations, directors and officers, shareholders, sole proprietors, as well as individuals and businesses of all sizes. Mark provides comprehensive support to guide his clients to satisfactory outcomes when disputes arise and strategically prepares them for litigation when early resolution is not possible.
Over the years, Mark has also developed a niche for obtaining urgent injunctive relief from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on behalf of his clients, often in cases involving fraud, and in other circumstances where his clients require immediate relief from the court. Mark is also a regular participant in private and court-mandated mediations and has experience successfully litigating disputes through private arbitration.
